An Introduction to Keeping Bees

In this four hour course held at The Good Life Farm in Kyneton, you will learn of bee keeping at home in a suburban backyard. We use a Langstroth bee hive for the purpose of teaching but you can apply what we teach you across all hive types.

You will find out about:

  • The apiary code

  • The basics of a hive

  • What you need to purchase to set up a hive

  • How to obtain bees

  • How to do a pest check

  • The life cycle of bees

  • Swarm prevention; and

  • Protective clothing requirements


Who is this course for? Anyone who is thinking of producing their own honey at home, or anyone thinking of keeping for pleasure and enjoyment.
