WHERE TO BUY THE GOOD LIFE HONEY
The Good Life Farm Co. sells local honey and bee products.
Currently we are in a honey drought so it will be a while before our next batch is available for purchase. If you would like to be notified when our small batch honey becomes available, please contact us.
Meanwhile, if you need assistance with capturing a bee swarm in the Central Victorian area (eg. Macedon Ranges, Bendigo, Mount Alexander, Hepburn Springs, Sunbury), call Claire on 0403 843 314!
A hive share is a chance for you to co-manage a bee hive with us. A yearly subscription will allow us to purchase a new hive and offer you the chance to learn how to build a bee hive,to open your bee hive with our support, and to harvest your own honey. It allows you to learn the specifics of bee keeping and to increase the bee population. The concept of the hive share was born when some friends from Melbourne wanted to start beekeeping but were unsure of how to care for their bees. They were also not sure if they wanted to commit to having a hive full time. At the same time I wanted to increase the number of hives I owned. We agreed that for a set fee I would purchase a hive in their name, and for the next 12 months they could visit our farm to learn how to care for the bees, build hive boxes, and extract honey. At the end of the year they could buy the hive or allow us begin managing it.
We are currently taking expressions of interest for Spring 2019.
THE GOOD LIFE EGGS
We sell premium paddock eggs laid with love by healthy, free range chickens that roam wild from sunrise to sunset.
Our entire philosophy revolves around 360 degree ethical farming. Animal welfare and sustainability is at the heart of all the decisions we make. This includes:
- Who we procure our pullets (young chickens) from;
- Finding older chooks suitable homes for 'retirement';
- The standard of mobile chicken coops we use;
- Not locking our chickens up;
- Ratio of free ranging hens per hectare;
- Design of nesting boxes and roosting space;
- Recycled egg cartons that are made in Australia,
- Recycled package labels;
- Availability of re-usable egg trays to reduce carton waste.
A DAY IN THE [GOOD] LIFE OF OUR HAPPY HENS
Our happy little ladies lead an idyllic country life exploring the grassy pastures of the Macedon Ranges.
And to ensure there is plenty of room for activities at 'The Good Life Chook Day Spa', we keep our ratio of chickens to just 300 per hectare, which is exceptional by industry free range standards.
Learn more about how we compare to the industry guidelines for 'free range' eggs.
THE GOOD LIFE CHOOK ROUTINE
Our healthy hens pass their daylight hours foraging grassy pastures under the shade of gum trees, then toddle home to roost for the night inside comfortable mobile 'chook caravans'.
These five star chook caravans are moved regularly around the farm, providing fresh land to grub around in. This technique is also part of our regenerative farming method, ensuring all the paddocks receive an equal portion of chicken love, with nutrient-rich chook poo adding natural goodness back into the soil.
We chose our chook caravans based on the high standard of welfare conditions they offer chickens. Not all chook caravans meet these 'five star' levels. Our caravans ensure maximum comfort for roosting hens, so they have plenty of room to wriggle their fluffy bottoms, flap their wings, snooze peacefully and lay eggs joyfully.
THE GOOD LIFE CHOOK DIET
Our chickens eat naturally foraged food supplemented by a healthy diet of grains. We do not use hormones, and do cool things like feed our chooks apple cider vinegar, garlic and probiotics to boost their immune systems.
WHERE TO BUY THE GOOD LIFE EGGS
We currently deliver our nutritious eggs on a weekly basis to convenient pick up locations from Bendigo through to Melbourne. You can learn more about how to join The Good Life Direct service in our video below!
We sell small-batch, ethically farmed pork. As pig farmers who were vegetarian for ten years, it is vital to us that our pigs are raised using premium welfare standards. You can be 100% guaranteed that our pork has been raised ethically and with love.
We farm a range of heritage breed pigs or heritage crosses, because they offer a variety of flavours and different fat layering to the standard Large White pig.
Our pigs roam free as they cycle through various paddocks, at liberty to snuffle their snouts in grass and dirt, and to splash around in wallows. It's a good life!
